Don’t act like you’re not excited for this Independence Day: Resurgence trailer

Good morning. In less than two minutes, you’ll have finished watching the trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence, a sequel to the beloved-ish sci-fi classic from 1996. Next year, 20th Century Fox will be launching what could be the biggest sequel in the history of mankind.

Mankind…that word should have new meaning for all of us today, the day that the trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence was released. We can’t be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests, most of which involve going to see Independence Day: Resurgence.

Perhaps it’s fate that today is the 13th of December, and this trailer features jets fighting against alien spaceships for our freedom, not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution—but from boring movies that aren’t sequels to Independence Day. The jets in this trailer are fighting for our right to live, to see movies like Independence Day: Resurgence.

And should we win the day, June 24, 2016, will no longer be known as some random day in the summer, but as the day when the world declared in one voice: We will not go quietly into the night. We will not vanish without a fight. We’re going to live on. We’re going to survive.

Today (or, more accurately, June 24 of next year) we celebrate the release of Independence Day: Resurgence.
