Don’t like the new Star Wars title? Make your own

The title of the new Star Wars film was announced last week as Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It was generally met with a chorus of “sure, that’s fine, I guess.” It seems to fit in with the general pulp spirit that previous Star Wars titles have engendered. Plus after a few years of some of the worst titles of sequels (Star Trek Into Darkness? Quantum of Solace?), fans may be more forgiving than normally expected.

Except this is the Internet, and therefore some people will not like the title and write long Twitter rants about how J.J. Abrams is continuing the childhood sullying started by Lucas in the prequels. And for those people, there is now a solution to their clearly devastating and very real concerns about the title.

The Verge has created a widget that allows users to plug in their own sequel title using the same font with the same background (that font is ITC Serif Gothic for any typography fanatics out there). Type in whatever name should be in there and thus prove superiority over Lucasfilm’s marketing team. Note that space is limited so users are unable to put in much longer, and therefore hilarious, titles; but there’s still plenty of space to try various alternatives.

Go to The Verge and create a new, more suitable (or at least funnier) title for Episode VII. Who knows? Maybe one of them will end up being the title for Rian Johnson‘s Episode VIII—especially if it turns out he’s as big a fan of Dan In Real Life as the rest of us.
