Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead wins the Hollywood remake sweepstakes
So clearly of its time that Pajiba called it an '80s movie in their news report, Stephen Herek’s 1991 family comedy Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead is scheduled to get an inoffensive contemporary makeover courtesy of The Mark Gordon Company, reports Cinematical. Dedicated HBO viewers will remember the Christina Applegate vehicle featuring a children-left-behind premise in which Applegate cares for her younger siblings, including '80s teen actor Keith Coogan, after—in case you didn’t read the title of the film—their elderly babysitter dies. Applegate improbably lands an executive job at a fashion company working for '80s MILF Joanna Cassidy and supports the younger kids until their mother returns from Australia, where it seems phones still haven’t been invented. The remake project has already been sent out to writers; we can only guess what princely sum will be offered to Applegate to appear as the Australia-bound mother.
