Don’t worry, Chicago Med has showrunners again
Chicago Med, the Chicago Fire spinoff that’s been Chicago-hemorrhaging cast and crew at an alarming Chicago rate, has managed to staunch at least some of its HR bleeding. Deadline reports that husband-and-wife producing team Andrew Schneider and Diane Frolov, whose past credits include Northern Exposure, Boardwalk Empire, and The Sopranos, will be taking over showrunning duties from the abruptly departed Andrew Dettmann. It’s apparently become standard Chicago Med operating procedure for vacated positions to multiply; when Walking Dead star Laurie Holden left the show earlier this month, her absent surgeon was replaced with a trio of new characters. (Hopefully, the show doesn’t see any more sudden departures, or the geometric progression of open roles might lead to half the Earth’s population working for Dick Wolf.)
The medical drama, which follows the similarly titled Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D., will begin production next month. It’s currently expected to star Oliver Platt, S. Epatha Merkerson, and Nick Gehlfus, although listing out cast members like this suddenly feels like the show is tempting fate.
