Donald Glover is your new Lando Calrissian

Confirming months of speculation, the official Star Wars Twitter account has announced that Community and Atlanta star Donald Glover has been cast as smooth-talking space pirate Lando Calrissian in Disney’s upcoming Han Solo film.

Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller offered their combined congratulations/condolences to their new co-star, saying, “We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us. These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”

Glover will take over the role from Billy Dee Williams, who played the Cloud City administrator and inveterate scoundrel in The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi. He’ll co-star with Alden Ehrenreich, who was cast as the new Han Solo back in May. Plot details about the film are scarce, but at least one source suggests it might center on just how Lando lost the Millennium Falcon to Han in the first place.

Glover currently stars on FX’s Atlanta; he also recently accepted a role in Spider-Man: Homecoming, also owned by Disney.
