Donald Glover’s written all of Atlanta season 2, will begin filming soon

Donald Glover donning Lando Calrissian’s cape for the young Han Solo movie was great news for the Star Wars-verse, but not so much for fans of his ineffable FX series, Atlanta. It meant a delay on season two of one of the best shows of the previous TV season, with FX saying we wouldn’t catch up with Earn and Van until 2018. But the word out of the TCA summer press tour is that there really is only a year left to wait. During his executive session today, TV soothsayer and FX CEO John Landgraf revealed that Glover had written all of season two before heading to London to shoot the spin-off, so production on the series will pick up once more after filming wraps. This jibes with the info in The Hollywood Reporter’s profile of Glover, which indicates shooting will begin in September. But it’s always good to hear it straight from the programming chief’s mouth.

This update was just one of the many comforting and fascinating things Landgraf shared during his session, which has become an informative highlight of the tour. The FX CEO also said he’s hopeful about American Crime Story: Katrina and Mayans MC seeing the light of day, while admitting that there will only be new seasons of Fargo and Louie if their respective creators, Noah Hawley and Louis CK, have good ideas and want to run with them. Also, despite the recently-announced streaming service, he is “not interested in world domination.”
