Donald Glover showed up to work for The Lion King wearing the wrong Disney character on his shirt

Anticipation for Disney’s upcoming Lion King remake has been slowly building since late last year when the film’s unbelievably stacked cast list was announced. Now, courtesy of director Jon Favreau, we’ve got our first behind-the-scenes look at a portion of said cast in action. Donald Glover, Billy Eichner, and Seth Rogen—voicing Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa respectively—joined the director in the recording booth this week, possibly to lay down some dialogue or maybe even do a dry run of “Hakuna Matata.” Whatever they were up to, we hope they took a minute for a quick conversation about how Donald Glover is repping the wrong Disney character on his sweater.

Yes, we can all understand the desire to wear the shirt of a pop culture icon that shares your name, and no one can blame Donald Glover for being more drawn to Donald Duck than, let’s say, more infamous Donalds. But he’s Simba now. He should be wearing a Simba shirt! While we’re at it, Jon Favreau shouldn’t be wearing that 2001: A Space Odyssey shirt either. He should be wearing something that says “The Lion King 2019 remake” on it so everyone remembers what he’s doing there.

It’s possible we’re over-thinking this, so we’re going to take some advice from the aforementioned musical number and say, “Hakuna Matata.” This star-studded cast can wear whatever they want as long as they keep us posted with more behind-the-scenes pics like this and maybe even a snippet of that new Beyonce-Elton John joint.
