Donations to fight dementia soar in wake of Terry Pratchett’s death

Following the death of beloved fantasy author Sir Terry Pratchett, British charity The Research Institute For The Care Of Older People (RICE—the “E” originally stood for elderly, but has since been changed) has received over £40,000 in donations (roughly $60,000) in the author’s name. RICE specializes in researching both the diagnosis and treatment of dementia; Pratchett, who died of natural causes at age 66 after struggling with dementia for several years, had been treated at the Institute since 2008.

Anyone interested in making a donation to RICE can do so on their web site. If you’re in the UK, you can also donate your time, collecting money or joining charity events, all for an excellent cause.
