Donnie Wahlberg, Nick Lachey, and the creator of Entourage are making a boy band sitcom

Proving that ’90s heartthrob crooning, rampant nostalgia, and the word “brah” will never truly be banished from TV, Rolling Stone is reporting that Donnie Wahlberg of New Kids On The Block, Nick Lachey of 98 Degrees, and Entourage creator Doug Ellin are teaming up for a new sitcom about former boy band members looking to reunite. CBS—which also airs Wahlberg’s Blue Bloods—will host Encore, which will presumably tap into Wahlberg, Lachey, and Ellin’s extensive experience bringing back things people were only barely managing to miss.

The series is actually the second boy band-themed TV project to surface in recent months: Dick Wolf and former One Direction member Zayn Malik are currently working on a drama series titled Boys for NBC. That show will presumably be pretty grim, tapping into the dark realities of the industry; Encore sounds a lot more light-hearted, with its focus on dads trying to balance fatherhood with their dreams of returning to the spotlight, all while—we assume—struggling to keep their family-owned burger franchises/reality series on their feet.
