On the newest EP from New Orleans’ Donovan Wolfington, the band finds itself hitting many of the same notes as Joyce Manor, as both bands find ways to take Rivers Cuomo’s best riffs and manipulate them in ways that become their own. “Sleeping,” the first song from its upcoming EP on Topshelf Records Scary Stories You Tell In The Dark opens on a stark note, with a morbid sample about mortality, but quickly Donovan Wolfington’s mixture of dream-pop and punk rock takes hold as the band nimbly darts across its disparate influences while carving its own unique sound.
