Double your Carmichael Show, double your fun

Double your Carmichael Show, double your fun

Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Wednesday, March 9. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

The Carmichael Show (NBC, 10 p.m.): Families! Families talkin’ ’bout issues! Did you like that? Those were the new lyrics we just created for The Carmichael Show’s second season. And based on the synopsis for this episode, as well as the great first season, we know that those lyrics will be evergreen: “When Cynthia sees her Reverend with someone who is not his wife, the family comes together to discuss cheating and consequences. Jerrod is shocked when this family discussion reveals that Maxine is no stranger to infidelity.” Joshua Alston begins weekly Carmichael Show reviews with this episode, so don’t forget to ask him about his experiences with cheating. That should be totally fun and not out of left field for him.

(And no, there are not two new episodes tonight. The “double” part comes from it being the second season, although you can catch a repeat at 10:30 p.m. Get with the whimsy.)

Top pick No. 2: American Crime is a really good show too

American Crime (ABC, 10 p.m.): As one show’s second season begins, another show’s second season ends. So here we are, at the American Crime season two finale. 10 episodes and it just doesn’t feel like enough, does it, Pilot Viruet? Luckily, this episode’s synopsis is hella loaded:

“Sebastian gets a taste of his own medicine and is stunned to discover that someone is usurping his cause and releasing emails, texts and other pieces off personal information about numerous Leyland families, initiating a chain reaction that could cause the downfall all of those involved with the events of the alleged sexual assault on Taylor, and everything that has transpired since; Dan and Steph must deal with the fallout of their daughter Becca being arrested for supplying drugs to Taylor the day of the murder; Michael goes to extreme measures to ensure that son Kevin won’t be implicated as being complicit in the beating of Taylor, which doesn’t sit well with Terri; and Chris makes a decision about his future with Marshall High School.”

Also noted

Survivor (CBS, 8 p.m.): “The brutal heat of Kaoh Rong takes a toll on several castaways, and one is medically evacuated from of the game.” We’re not Survivor experts like Carrie Raisler, but couldn’t that technically just be any other episode of Survivor? Especially the first half of the sentence.

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia (FXX, 10 p.m.): Yes, another season finale, with “The Gang Goes To Hell: Part 2.” Last week, Mac came to grips with the fact that he’s gay. This week? “The gang gets real with one another in the face of death.” Oh that tells us nothing, Dennis Perkins!

Hap And Leonard (Sundance, 10 p.m.): In “The Bottoms,” we try not to laugh at an episode of a good television show being called “The Bottoms.” We’ll try our best, Brandon Nowalk.

Underground (WGN America, 10 p.m.): On Monday’s What’s On Tonight, your friendly neighborhood What’s On Tonight contributor asked you all if you remembered slavery. She then directed your attentions to Joshua Alston’s pre-air review of Underground, which called the show “a taut thriller disguised as a history lesson.” So now that the show’s finally here, on a pretty stacked Wednesday night, and it’s time to see if it will be another hit for WGN America like Outsiders or if it will go the way of the dearly departed Manhattan.

Regular coverage

Broad City (Comedy Central, 10 p.m.)

Younger (TV Land, 10 p.m.)

Elsewhere in TV Club

You’re listening to Bitch Sesh, right? You know, Casey Wilson and Danielle Schneider’s Real Housewives podcast. Well, you should be, and Casey and Danielle will tell you why in their interview with Blake Harris (By Alene Too). That’s a reference from the podcast.

By the way, Will Arnett has a new Netflix series called Flaked, and Dennis Perkins wrote a pre-air review of said series. Like spoilers? Then you can also go here for some Foilers (“Flaked spoilers,” keep up). Dennis Perkins really has us all covered. Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya also has us covered with a pre-air review of Netflix’s new sketch comedy, The Characters. And now for the Netflix hat trick: Over in For Our Consideration land, Gwen Ihnat and Nick Wanserski have compiled a “cumulative guide to who’s (and who’s not) returning to Stars Hollow” for the Gilmore Girls continuation. Netflix! Netflix! Netflix!

What else is on?

Rosewood (Fox, 8 p.m.): Tia Mowry guest stars in this episode, so everyone be on high alert. As we all know, she’ll do anything to get people on her show, Tia Mowry At Home. Anything.

Young & Hungry (Freeform, 8 p.m.): “Young & Rachael Ray.” Get it? Because Rachael Ray guest stars as herself in this episode.

The Voice (NBC, 8 p.m.): Ah, NBC is already getting its Voice clip show on with “The Best Of The Blind Auditions.” Get those sweet, Carson Daly-y ratings, Peacock.

Unsung Hollywood (TV One, 8 p.m.): The third season premiere of Unsung Hollywood focuses Joe Morton, and we hope it’s exclusively about his Scandal monologues. And, okay, Eureka too.

Mob Wives (VH1, 8/9 p.m.): Just a heads up—the 9 p.m. episode is a tribute to Big Ang, if that’s what you’re into.

Baby Daddy (Freeform, 8:30 p.m.): “When Danny finds out that Ben is still Riley’s emergency contact, he acts as if Ben and Riley’s relationship didn’t count. So, when Ben attempts to prove that his and Riley’s relationship meant something, things become awkward for Riley and Danny.” At this point, why are Danny and Ben even in each other’s lives any more? Yes, they’re brothers, but they’re also brothers who have no problem letting a woman get in the way of that on a regular basis. Yes, it’s time to get deep with Baby Daddy.

Wahlburgers (A&E, 9/9:30 p.m.):

The Victoria’s Secret Swim Special (CBS, 9 p.m.): This is a thing.

Hell’s Kitchen (Fox, 9 p.m.): “After two contestants swap teams, Chef Ramsay startles the cooks by inviting a furry friend to the dining room – Jack, a 12-year-old American bison.” Um, R.I.P. Jack?

Face Off (Syfy, 9 p.m.): “Unique vessels provide the inspiration when the artists face the challenge of creating mischievous genie characters.” Three wishes—go!

CSI: Cyber (CBS, 10 p.m.): New episode. Special night. Has Christmas come early or what? “The Cyber team investigates when users of a traffic app are rerouted to remote locations and robbed by masked women.” Ah, come on, Cyber team. That’s kind of funny.

Kocktails With Khloé (FYI, 10 p.m.): Say, do you care about Khloé Kardashian’s biological father drama?

Man Seeking Woman (FXX, 10:30 p.m.): As we expected after the end of last week’s episode, the season two finale of Man Seeking Woman is an episode where “Josh gets his chance to be with Rosa.” But isn’t it so much more fun when he’s miserable? Fine, let him have one win.

Teachers (TV Land, 10:30 p.m.): The episode is titled “Hot Lunch,” and we assume that has something to do with sex.

Watch What Happens: Live (Bravo, 11 p.m.): Loretta Lynn and Isaac Mizrahi are watching what happens live. That should be exciting for someone.

Overboard (Ovation, 7:30 p.m.): Yes, the Goldie Hawn/Kurt Russell romantic comedy Overboard is super problematic. But we love it so much. Just don’t think about it within the context of, well, any time outside of the movie itself.

What Happens In Vegas (HBO Comedy East, 8 p.m.): Don’t forget: Lake Bell and Ballers Rob Corddry are the sidekicks in this movie, and they completely make it worth it.
