Doug Jones wants to haunt you in the first Bye Bye Man trailer

Proving that there’s a very low threshold for the term “based on true events,” here’s a horror movie about a malevolent spirit who’s responsible for all the random acts of violence people have committed over the years. And proving that any name can be scary if whispered in ominous tones, he’s called “The Bye Bye Man” and he’s played in the film by the one and only Doug Jones. When three college students stumble upon the Bye Bye Man legend, they learn the only way to avoid his curse is to “don’t think it, don’t say it.” But since it’s too late for that one, the trailer suggests they basically just try to outrun him as he forces them to stand in front of trains and put guns to their heads.

Actor/writer/former Survivor contestant Jonathan Penner adapted the screenplay from a short story called The Bridge To Body Island. In addition to its three fresh-faced leads, The Bye Bye Man also stars Faye Dunaway and Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix, Jessica Jones), although they aren’t featured in this trailer. The “chilling horror-thriller” hits theaters during that extra spooky time of year, June 3.
