Downton Abbey’s Jessica Brown Findlay joins the unauthorized Morrissey biopic
As reported by Deadline, Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey) has joined the cast of Mark Gill’s unauthorized Morrissey biopic, Steven. The film will star War & Peace’s Jack Lowden as Moz himself, and the storyline will focus on a young Steven Patrick Morrissey as he experiences various important events that will impact his future as the lead singer of The Smiths. Findlay will play “visual artist, performance artist, and musician” Linder Sterling, “a close friend” of Morrissey’s and reportedly the subject of the song “Cemetery Gates.”
Based on the lyrics of that song, we’re guessing there will be a scene where lil’ Morrissey and Sterling walk around a graveyard in Manchester and talk about poetry. Really, though, the entire biopic could probably be about Morrissey walking around a graveyard and talking about poetry. Just throw in a scene where he decides to get that cool haircut, a post-credits stinger where Johnny Marr invites him to help start a new band, and t you’d have a pretty solid take on his life.
