It didn’t make our list of the 26 best animated series of all time, but Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist still holds a squiggly, continuously moving place in The A.V. Club’s heart. That’s why we have complicated feelings about the upcoming Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist Live show at the Moontower Comedy & Oddity Festival.
Part of us is overjoyed that Jonathan Katz will return to the couch to analyze celebrity guests Andy Kindler, Emo Philips, Maria Bamford, Dom Irrera, Dana Gould, and Eddie Pepitone (plus special surprise patients!). We like all of them, and it’s been nearly eight years since the last time Dr. Katz received the live-show treatment. But another part of us is deeply, unhealthily envious, because the show is in Austin, Texas, far from The A.V. Club’s offices in Chicago. Perhaps we need to talk to someone about it…
