Drake thought Macklemore's post-Grammy text to Kendrick Lamar was "wack as fuck"
Drake, voice of the (Canadian) people, has weighed in on Macklemore’s post-Grammy text to Kendrick Lamar, calling it “wack as fuck.” In an interview with Rolling Stone, Drake—who was also nominated for Best Rap Album, along with Macklemore, Lamar, Kanye West, and Jay Z—said he “felt funny” that Macklemore just named Lamar in his text, believing that all the nominated rappers deserved text messages. Of course, this would mean Drake would have to give Macklemore his cell number, thereby opening himself up to calls about dumb collaborations and the Seattle rapper’s inevitable brags about having Drake’s number, so that’s probably a non-starter.
Drake went on further, saying he thought it was cheap and disingenuous of Macklemore to post the text, and that he should “just chill” and “take [his] W.” “Why feel guilt?” he asked. “You think those guys would pay homage to you if they won?”
Rolling Stone also asked Drake to weigh in on the white rapper’s popularity. Drake said Macklemore’s sales are just another example of “how the world works… whether people wanna say it’s racial, or whether it’s just the fact that he tapped into something we can’t tap into.”
