Drunk History is not as think as you drunk it is

Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Tuesday, July 1. All times are Eastern.

Drunk History (Comedy Central, 10 p.m.): This webseries-turned-TV show returns for a second season with even more drunken retellings of historical events. In the first episode Allan McLeod, Jordan Peele, Amber Ruffin, Mariah Wilson, Lisa Bonet, Morgan Murphy, and Terry Crews reenact stories about racism in Alabama. Despite that weighty topic, Caroline Framke found the show delightfully committed to having fun in her pre-air review. We recommend pairing this show with a fine cabernet and/or any alcohol you can get your hands on.

Nathan For You (Comedy Central, 10:30 p.m.): Remember Dumb Starbucks? Now you can see it in action as part of the second season of Nathan For You. That particular stunt won’t air until later in the season, but Erik Adams was still quite pleased with the return of this satire of reality TV. John Teti will be handling weekly reviews with his Dumb Latte in hand.

Orange Is The New Black (Netflix): You might have finished Orange Is The New Black weeks ago, but Myles McNutt is still dutifully chugging through two episodes at a time. He checks out the ninth and tenth episodes and asks the question that’s on everyone’s mind: What’s the point of Larry?

Tyrant (FX, 10 p.m.)

The Shield (Classic): Two officers mysteriously disappear after answering a 911 call. Brandon Nowalk is sure he doesn’t know anything about it, nope, not him, not a clue, totally innocent.

The Office (Classic): Erik Adams takes a look at the third season episodes “Safety Training” and “Product Recall.” The former was directed by the late, great Harold Ramis, which makes Erik so depressed he wants to jump off a roof (onto a giant bouncy castle).

In part one of our 26 worst episodes of the 2013-2014 season we highlighted the worst of Sherlock, True Blood, Dexter, Hostages and more. Today we round out the list with 14 more episodes that make us want to pull our hair out in frustration.

Also, in case you missed it, Community is one step closer to getting its six seasons and a movie. Dan Harmon and Co. are officially getting a sixth season thanks to Yahoo, of all places.

30 For 30 (ESPN, 8 p.m.): 30 For 30 continues its soccer-themed programming with the story of Argentinians Ossie Ardiles and Ricky Vila. They played for England, but became embroiled in controversy after England and Argentina went to war over the Falkland Islands.

Time Scanners: Egyptian Pyramids (PBS, 8 p.m.): Archeology nerds get ready to geek out. This show uses technologically advanced programs to analyze the Great Pyramids in order to learn more about their history and construction. Our money is on aliens.

History Detectives Special Investigation: Civil War Sabotage: (PBS, 9 p.m.): For those who prefer slightly more recent history, PBS kicks off History Detectives Special Investigation (a reformatting of their long-running series History Detectives) by examining the mystery of the sinking of the SS Sultana at the end of the Civil War. Our money is once again on aliens.

Heroes Of Cosplay (SyFy, 10p.m.): Heroes Of Cosplay wraps up its second season with an episode centered on a group skit and a difficult-to-make costume. Anyone who did theater in high school can totally relate.

Love Actually (TMC, 8 p.m.): Why is TMC airing a British Christmas movie on July 1? Why not?

The Hunchback Of Notre Dame (TCM, 8 p.m.): After Quasimodo was played by Lon Chaney in the 1923 silent film, but before he was a singing cartoon in the 1996 Disney version, he romanced Maureen O’Hara in this 1939 RKO film.

2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil: Belgium vs. U.S. (multiple networks, 3 p.m.): Waffle House has declared war on the Belgian waffle in anticipation of this game. We at AVC humbly suggest that eating a Belgian waffle while watching the U.S. beat Belgium would be a much sweeter victory (in more ways than one).
