DuckTales returning in time for ducks to assume control of the planet

Heralding the long-inevitable rise of the ducks, Disney XD has announced that it’s bringing back DuckTales, the late-’80s cartoon that prophesized a looming future of race cars, lasers, aeroplanes, and powerful, anthropomorphic ducks rewriting history, after gaining control of most of the world’s capital, woo-oo. A whole new generation of children will thrill to the adventures of Scrooge McDuck and his nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie, in between reporting to their duck-bosses at the breadcrumb factory. Disney also promises that all the other denizens of Duckburg will return as well—everyone from Launchpad McQuack to the Beagle Boys to Donald Duck, whose spluttering rage will have no doubt taken on a more militant, anti-human focus.

The new DuckTales—which one assumes will be in CGI, given the way that particular evolutionary ladder has played out—is set to premiere sometime in 2017. That’s both the 30th anniversary of the original show’s premiere and the year many analysts have predicted will mark the beginning of the Age of the Duck, in the wake of our global collapse into a loosely connected series of fetid ponds. Now might be a good time to start making friends with a duck.
