As reported by TMZ (via The Wrap), former Dukes Of Hazzard star Tom Wopat was arrested on Wednesday night in Massachusetts for indecent assault and cocaine possession. A warrant had reportedly been issued regarding an alleged assault and battery on a person “over 14,” and when the cops picked up Wopat, they found “two bags of white powder believed to be cocaine.” Wopat is in Massachusetts for a production of 42nd Street, and whatever he allegedly did involved him putting his hands down the pants of “a woman connected with the production.”
A more recent Associated Press story says that Wopat had “[grabbed] her buttocks,” and he has since pleaded not guilty to both the indecent assault and drug possession charges. In court, he reportedly admitted that he “flirts,” but claimed that he did “nothing that could be considered inappropriate.” Weirdly, though, he also apparently told the police that he buys cocaine “in large quantities and uses it over time,” which probably won’t be good for his defense. Wopat was released on $1,000 bail and ordered to stay away from the woman.
