Because The A.V. Club knows that TV shows keep going even if we’re not writing at length about them, we’re experimenting with discussion posts. For certain shows, one of our TV writers will publish some brief thoughts about the latest episode, and open the comments for readers to share theirs.
- A little reminder of where Gotham is right now: as the episode begins, Mario and Lee’s wedding is only two days away, Gordon is back at the GCPD, Barnes is in Arkham, and a hit, seemingly directed at Don Falcone, has brought Gordon back into Lee’s orbit. He has one day to find out who’s after Falcone before the Don himself takes over with his, shall we say, “aggressive” methods of gathering information.
- With Barnes on the shelf, Bullock, of course, looks great as acting Captain.
- Gordon wants to know why another, more senior officer didn’t get the gig. Bullock: “The guy shot a cat last week.” Gordon: “On purpose?” Bullock: “Does it matter?”
- Eventually Jim figures out that the target of the hit was Mario, and not Don Falcone, thrusting him into the position of having to save the man who’s marrying the woman he loves from assassins on motorcycles wielding swords.
- “He’s at the GCPD, he’s safe.” Um, Gordon, have you ever been to the GCPD? That place gets raided at least 3 times a season, buddy.
- “Hello comrade.” “Comrade is not a Russian word.” “Oh shut up, of course it is.” Never change, Barbara. You’re perfect.
- Selina and Bruce discover that the key they found/Ivy stole belongs to the Court of Owls and may open up a vault that contains some sort of weapon. Eventually, they plot to team up with the Whisper Gang to take down Gotham’s powerful, unseen overlords. Then the Whisper Gang ends up dead, so Bruce is in more trouble than he knows.
- So, the two big reveals this week are that Mario is infected just like Barnes, and that Falcone is in some way dealing with the Court of Owls.
- Nygma has his own revelation this week: after he tortures Butch and makes Tabitha prove her loyalty to him, he discovers that Butch didn’t kill Isabella. It’s unclear whether he’s pegged Cobblepot as the culprit, but Barbara believes she’s put it all together. The question now is, how will she use that information?
