Deadline reports that Jim Carrey and production company Red Granite are looking to join forces again to make more money, following the box office success of Dumb And Dumber To. Producers Riza Aziz and Joey McFarland have optioned Johnny Rosenthal’s Deep Cover, with Carrey set to star.
Rosenthal has a number of scripts floating around Hollywood, including a recently sold opera comedy, the adventure film Iron Jack, and a sequel to Bad Santa (which seems to have been rewritten). Details on Deep Cover haven’t been released yet, but it is a comedy. So, it’s unlikely to be a remake of the early ’90s thriller starring Laurence Fishburne as an undercover DEA agent navigating a deadly urban jungle of cocaine traffickers, corrupt lawyers, and informants. It could still probably recycle that Dr. Dre/Snoop Dogg song, though.
