Dustin Hoffman may join Zach Braff’s geriatric bank robber movie

Shins fans rejoiced at yesterday’s news that Zach Braff may be have found his next directorial gig—a remake of Going In Style, the 1979 heist flick in which George Burns and other elderly men rob a bank. Now Simon & Garfunkel fans are getting their turn, as Dustin Hoffman is reportedly in talks to join a cast that already includes Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine (yet involves neither Christopher Nolan nor magicians).

New Line is eyeing Braff to replace St. Vincent director Ted Melfi, who wrote the script for the remake, but then dropped out of the production. With a potential cast like this, the movie will have more than enough star power to get butts in seats, although it remains to be seen whether these veteran thespians have enough range to act out the quarter-life crisis Braff will certainly put them through. Either way, we’ll likely have a fun Braff/Hoffman/Portman Going In Style/Garden State/Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium mashup to look forward to on YouTube.
