It’s not like there’s nothing worth talking about on this week’s list: Apollo 13 would be nice to own on Blu-ray, and there are a couple of interesting indies (Defendor and The Slammin’ Salmon) that will get more detailed write-ups in the regular DVD section tomorrow. For the most part though, this is a blah kind of week, with one major exception: The Great Mouse Detective, the well-crafted 1986 Disney take on Sherlock Holmes, which for years has been an under-acknowledged forerunner to Disney’s run of success in the ‘90s. It’s back out on DVD now, in a not-as-packed-as-it-should-be special edition. If you’ve never seen it, you’re in for a treat.
