DVD/BD Release List – 10/26/10

We’re not even sure where to begin with this week’s overstuffed list, so we’ll begin by saying that if you haven’t seen Winter’s Bone yet, now’s the time, before you start mouthing off to your friends about the best movies of 2010. (And while we’re at it, we’re going to take our own advice and watch Everyone Else, a romantic psychodrama that many critics have cited as one of the year’s finest.) Next up: Blu-ray releases of classic movies, this week featuring the Back To The Future trilogy, the Stanley Kubrick WWI masterpiece Paths Of Glory, and the bugfuck 1977 Japanese horror movie House, which will be covered in depth in Scott Tobias’ next “New Cult Canon” column, this Thursday. On the TV front, we point you to Law & Order UK, which revivifies the formula by moving it overseas, and Evening Primrose, a rare Stephen Sondheim musical that aired live on TV in 1966 and has only been viewable at The Museum Of Television & Radio before today’s DVD release. Lastly, there are number of noteworthy documentaries to consider: A Mother’s Courage: Talking Back To Autism (featuring music by Sigur Rós and Björk, and narration by Kate Winslet), Hôtel Terminus: The Life And Times Of Klaus Barbie (the Oscar-winning film by The Sorrow And The Pity director Marcel Ophüls); and Who Is Harry Nilsson (And Why Is Everybody Talkin’ About Him)? (which will be worth getting on DVD just for the plethora of archival material).
