DVD Release List – 3/17/09
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! And what better way to celebrate than with Twilight, a movie about vampires? Or perhaps the new Blu-ray editions of The Robe and Quo Vadis, two movies about the early days of Christianity? (Hey, as long as you’re celebrating some holiday, right?) Then again, if St. Patrick’s day is all about honoring cultural heritage—and you don’t much care which cultural heritage—consider Michel Ocelot’s acclaimed animated fairy tale Azur & Asmar: The Prince’s Quest, about Northern Africa in the 18th century. Or the new Eclipse box set of films by Hiroshi Shimizu, an early master of Japanese cinema considered by some to be the equal of his friend Yasujiro Ozu. Or the 1926 silent film version of Faust, by the quintessential German expressionist, F.W. Murnau.
So, yeah… Happy St. Patrick’s Day.
