It’s all about the cult TV this week, with box sets arriving for the complete Andy Richter Controls The Universe, the third season of The Venture Brothers, the first season of In Treatment, the second (and final) season of The Riches, and the first season of Room 222. It’s television for people who like their shows a little strange and a little off-model.
There’s some fantastic releases out there for fans of classic movies too, including Criterion Blu-ray editions of François Truffaut’s The 400 Blows and The Last Metro, and the terrific third volume of Warner’s “Forbidden Hollywood” series, this one dedicated to the short and gamy pre-code melodramas of William Wellman.
As for the big mainstream releases of the week, it basically boils down to two: the latest James Bond film Quantum Of Solace (a not-bad little action flick, if hardly classic Bond) and the Disney computer-animated adventure Bolt (a charming little cartoon, if hardly classic Disney). If you need to break the tie, Bolt looks better on Blu-ray. Y’know… if those kinds of things matter to you.
