If you’ve come to this week’s DVD Release List looking for good recent films making their home video debut, you’re bound to be a little disappointed (unless you’ve been on pins and needles waiting for the latest ‘80s horror remake or Tyler Perry film). But there’s still quite a lot that’s noteworthy this week—especially if you’re a Blu-ray connoisseur. The stellar HBO miniseries Generation Kill and John Adams make their BD debuts this week, as does the first two seasons of ABC’s cult hit (and on-line sensation) Lost, and the outstanding second season of USA’s Burn Notice. (Do yourself a favor and seek out the Burn Notice second season episode “Bad Breaks,” which is one of the most entertaining 45 minutes of television to air this year.) Stanley Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove also arrives on a features-packed BD, as does George Stevens’ The Diary Of Anne Frank and Ingmar Bergman’s The Seventh Seal.
Or you can buy a bunch of cheap DVDs of public domain movies, dressed up with the snarky sentiments of the RiffTrax crew. That'd also be fun.
