Since the publicists pushing the Summit Entertainment releases Knowing and Push sent us a box of bomb pops packed in dry ice last week, we feel obliged to note that those two movies are being released this week. So there… never let it be said that we don’t earn our promotional popsicles.
But the big release news of the week concerns the second wave of Universal’s “Backlot Series,” which this time out includes Ali Baba & The Forty Thieves, Beau Geste, Trail Of The Lonesome Pine and—best of all—Lonely Are The Brave, the “death of the west” drama that star Kirk Douglas has always considered his favorite movie. Given how lax Universal can be about opening up its vaults, just about any catalog release is welcome, but this one is particularly sweet.
