Not much of the Rampage movie’s plot was known at the time the project was announced, in part because there isn’t much of a central story. The film’s an adaptation of the 1986 Midway arcade game, which featured three off-brand monsters leveling cities. The monsters’ motivation was never revealed, but considering they were once human, there’s a good chance they were pissed about that. But we won’t have to wonder much about the destruction in Brad Peyton’s upcoming film—star Dwayne Johnson has already given fans the lowdown via Instagram.
So, instead of human-monster hybrids, it looks like we’re dealing with your standard mutated animals in a plot not unlike Zootopia’s. But Rampage will probably be a whole lot scarier, if Peyton’s to be believed. And with that, we have the final piece of the Rampage adaptation puzzle, since we already knew Johnson’s one of the good guys; Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s playing a government agent with “serious swagger”; Joe Manganiello and Marley Shelton are playing the head of a special forces group and a scientist, respectively; and Malin Ackerman is the movie’s villain. Really, the only thing we don’t know is whether there’s any kind of on-set feud brewing.
