Dwayne Johnson is finally ready to take that Jungle Cruise for Disney

A few years ago, Disney announced that it was expanding its Pirates-led empire of theme-park-rides-turned-blockbuster-movie-franchises, with news that it was talking to Dwayne Johnson about starring in a film adaptation of Disneyland’s Jungle Cruise. Now, Johnson—who, between this, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, and the upcoming Jumanji sequel, apparently never met a CGI rainforest he wouldn’t go enthusiastically charging through—is finally ready to come aboard.

Jungle Cruise is one of Disneyland’s original attractions, sending park-goers through recreations of different famous jungle rivers. You can see a ride-through of the attraction below, along with “Weird” Al Yankovic’s musical take on its dangers, which are probably a little more prosaic than the ones in Johnson’s version.

The film is set to go into production in spring 2018, after Johnson finishes up work on Rampage and Skyscraper, as part of his busy not-looking-at-explosions schedule.
