Dwayne "Not The Rock" Johnson replaces Brendan Fraser in Journey To The Center Of The Earth sequel

The obligatory sequel to 2008’s Journey To The Center Of The Earth, titled Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, has traded star Brendan Fraser for Dwayne Johnson, the man no one is allowed to call The Rock anymore. (As we reported earlier, Fraser didn’t want to sully the legacy of the first film by doing a sequel sans director Eric Brevig, and also apparently couldn’t agree on start dates.) It’s a logical progression for Johnson, given his recent reinvention as a family movie star with films like Race To Witch Mountain and Tooth Fairy—and besides, his character seems to exist primarily as musclebound ballast here, seeing as the sequel is centered on Josh Hutcherson’s character from the first film, and Johnson is playing the boyfriend of Hutcherson’s mother whom Hutcherson is “forced to bring on a trip to a mythical and monstrous island to find his missing grandfather.” And like the first film, it will be shot in 3D, so honestly, it probably doesn’t matter who’s in it.
