E! denies shutting down Kardashians production for reasons of human decency

As anyone who’s spent any amount of time on a treadmill knows, Keeping Up With The Kardashians doesn’t shy away from (i.e. is eager to capitalize upon) showing the bad as well as the good in the Kardashian clan’s collective lives. Caitlin Jenner’s gender transition, car crashes (or would that be kar krashes?), psoriasis—name a family crisis, and it’s probably been on E!, edited and repackaged for people to sort of halfheartedly pay attention to at the gym.

That’s what made a report from TMZ published overnight saying that production on Keeping Up With The Kardashians had temporarily halted while Kim deals with her husband Kanye West’s hospitalization due to “temporary psychosis due to sleep deprivation” kind of suspicious. Sure, Kanye has always kept his in-laws’ reality-show empire at arm’s length, but E! demurring from filming what would almost certainly be a ratings blockbuster simply because it’s the compassionate thing to do for another human being? That seems out of character.

And, indeed, E! has come forward to deny TMZ’s report, telling Deadline, Keeping Up with the Kardashians is currently in production and has not been halted.” Representatives for the network failed to comment further, and did not address the details of TMZ’s report, which said that the show had enough footage to meet its series commitment, but was planning to film through the holidays anyway. The show did previously shut down production when Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in Paris in October, so it’s not clear why they’re forging ahead now, especially if TMZ is correct and the extra footage is unnecessary. Renovations on the pool house went smoothly this year, perhaps?
