E! has made the bold decision to cancel Busy Philipps’ late night-show Busy Tonight. The actress announced the news on social media with both an Instagram story and a tweet.

Last October, E! premiered the late-night talk show helmed by Philipps, where the actress would comment on all things within the pop culture zeitgeist alongside a roundtable of friends and guests. The move was significant for a number of reasons, but largely because Philipps and her primarily female crew served as a fresh presence in a heavily male-dominated landscape. It’s also worth noting that the addition of Philipps meant that there were two active, female late-night hosts between herself and Samantha Bee. Alas, where there is progress, we can mostly rely on the rules of Highlander to prevail until there is only one, which will be the case until Lilly Singh takes over Carson Daly’s late-night slot.

The final episode of Busy Tonight will air May 16.

Update: A spokesperson from E! has released the following statement:

Busy Tonight’s last episode for E! will air Thursday, May 16 with a special celebratory half-hour. Busy is a hilarious and charismatic talent and we are grateful to the entire Busy Tonight team who has delivered countless laughs and heartwarming moments in what will be over 100 episodes.”
