E! is hitching its star to Elizabeth Hurley for its first foray into scripted programming. The recent Gossip Girl guest will return to TV to play Queen Helena in The Royals, a one-hour drama set around a fictional, modern British royal family. Set in London and loosely shaped by Hamlet, the show was written and directed by One Tree Hill creator Mark Schwahn. According to E!’s Jeff Olde, The Royals “will offer a fictional look at the very public gilded façade of the palace gates to imagine the private, lush, fun, sexy world of the most-watched celebrity family on the planet.” The trashy yet intriguing show will premiere sometime in 2015.
