Because our first choice, Battlestar Galactica’s Michael Hogan, is probably not big enough a name to carry an HBO film, the network has announced that Ed Harris will play John McCain in Game Change, its forthcoming dramatization of the 2008 election and all the maverick-y fun we had there. Harris will star alongside the previously announced Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin, with the two of them hopefully providing enough movie star glamour to make up for director Jay Roach and screenwriter Danny Strong’s most likely not-all-that-pretty account of the backroom decisions that led to the McCain/Palin ticket. No word yet on who will play the crucial role of Barack Obama, but maybe he’ll just be an off-screen muted trombone, like the parents on Charlie Brown specials. We’d watch that.
