Ed Helms is making an animated comedy for NBC

Now that NBC's dominance in the live-action sitcom world is a distant memory, the 19th-place network (roughly) is turning its eye to animation. The network made a feint in that direction two years ago, developing but ultimately never airing projects from two Office alumni, Mindy Kaling and creator Greg Daniels. And now, figuring what didn't work the last time will surely work this time, NBC is turning again to other Office-mates Ed Helms and writer Graham Wagner, who are co-writing a new animated series called Mystery Island. The show concerns cruise ship passengers who marooned on an island. (Whether the island turns out to be Purgatory remains to be seen.) Helms will also voice one of the leads, who we're hoping turns out to be a Harlem Globetrotter who's always pulling stuff out of his comically large afro.
