Apple is collecting talent and funneling money toward its original-TV initiative, but first, they’re out to reclaim the music video. Just a couple weeks after turning an ad for their HomePod into an excuse to let Spike Jonze send FKA Twigs dancing through time and space, the company launched a new music video section, and it is loaded with star power in a pair of exclusive videos. First up is a clip seemingly procedurally created from A.V. Club reader comments, with Edgar Wright filming an Alison Brie dance extravaganza set to Beck. You can see a clip of it above; for the whole thing you’ll have to be an Apple Music subscriber. It’s got all the kinetic energy you’d expect from the director of Baby Driver, transforming the title track from last year’s Colors into an explosion of primary hues and synchronized dance moves. Brie flits between vintage-Hollywood glam and elastic physical comedy, and Beck does a bunch of Beck dance moves. It’s a lot of fun.
Meanwhile, A Tribe Called Quest released their final video with “The Space Program.” Directed by music-video ringer Warren Fu, best known for a bunch of Random Access Memories-era Daft Punk visuals, it’s an 8-minute, surrealist sci-fi odyssey, turning the lively We Got It From Here cut into a remembrance of Phife Dawg and a call for civic action. It’s pretty moving stuff, with cameos by Erykah Badu, Vince Staples, Pharrell Williams, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Janelle Monae, and a bunch more. You can see a clip of it above.
