Elektra slays her way through Vegas in this exclusive Elektra #1 preview

If a Marvel character plays a prominent role in a movie or TV show, it almost always means that character will be spotlighted in a new comic-book series. The ninja assassin Elektra Natchios appeared in the second season of Netflix’s Daredevil, so of course she’s stepping back into the spotlight with a new ongoing, part of Marvel’s “Running With The Devil” February event that also includes the debuts of Bullseye and Kingpin titles. Written by Matt Owens, a writer on Netflix’s Luke Cage series, with art by Juan Cabal and colorist Antonio Fabela, Elektra takes the lead anti-heroine to Las Vegas, but the shift in scenery doesn’t change her character.

Elektra is still an extremely deadly assassin, and she’s putting her skills to work in Sin City. This exclusive preview of next week’s Elektra #1 highlights her action prowess, building to Elektra’s big reveal with two pages that show the fatal impact of her attacks while keeping her mostly off-panel. She’s all about quick, silent efficiency until she wants to make herself known, and when she steps into the flashing lights of the nightclub, she’s ready to deliver a spectacular beatdown.

Artist Juan Cabal is a relative newcomer in the industry, but he has the makings of a great talent if these preview pages are any indication. There’s a strong sense of place, expressive characters, and exhilarating action, particularly in the final page of Elektra slaying her way through a gang of armed goons. Colorist Antonio Fabela heightens the vibrant Vegas atmosphere with a bold palette of pinks, purples, and greens in the nightclub, and Elektra new black costume makes her pop against the bright colors so she’s always the focal point. All eyes are on Elektra, but if they stare for too long they might end up on the receiving end of one of her sais.
