Elizabeth Banks might direct a Charlie’s Angels reboot

With the new Ghostbusters movie and Gwendoline Christie’s awesome-looking Star Wars character about to take over Hollywood, things have never been worse for men in the movie industry. Granted, things are still unfairly good, but you know there’s a ton of dudes out there who are weirdly upset that there’s a woman under that chrome Stormtrooper armor. Anyway, Sony knows a trend when it sees one, so it’s moving forward with a reboot of a series that’s almost all about women beating up men: Charlie’s Angels.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Elizabeth Banks is “in talks” to direct a Charlie’s Angels reboot that will—we assume—be totally unrelated to the Drew Barrymore/Cameron Diaz/Lucy Liu movies from 2000 and 2003. Banks just made her directorial debut with Pitch Perfect 2 earlier this year, so not only would her getting a movie like Charlie’s Angels be pretty big, it would also suggest that the reboot will lean a little harder on comedy than action. Plus, it would also probably be more about female empowerment than the male gaze, which would be a nice change of pace.
