While you may not agree with Donald Trump’s opinions on anything, you probably like a few of the same bands: The Donald’s personally curated, odd campaign playlist includes tunes from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom Of The Opera, Adele, and Luciano Pavarotti. “Remember, the more inappropriate for a political event, the better,” a Trump volunteer in charge of one rally’s music told The New Yorker. Trump has been playing quite a bit of Elton John at his recent campaign rallies, but while his supporters probably enjoy singing along to “Tiny Dancer,” one person wishes that he’d stop playing the piano man’s back catalog: Sir Elton John himself.
“I don’t really want my music to be involved in anything to do with an American election campaign,” he told The Guardian. “I’m British. I’ve met Donald Trump, he was very nice to me, it’s nothing personal, “ Elton added, displaying more nuanced bi-partisanship than most politicians. John and Trump have been bros for a long time—reportedly, John even gave the Donald some piano lessons a few years ago. (John doesn’t seem to be too fussy when it comes to his friends’ political and social views, having performed at Rush Limbaugh’s fourth wedding ceremony.)
According to The Daily Beast, a statement from John’s publicist states that John’s music has not been requested for use in any official capacity by Donald Trump, and any use of his music should not be seen as an endorsement of Donald Trump. “His political views are his own, mine are very different,” stated John. “I’m not a Republican in a million years. Why not ask Ted fucking Nugent? Or one of those fucking country stars? They’ll do it for you.”
Presumably, he did not name a specific fucking country star as he, like the rest of us, can’t tell them apart.
