Emily VanCamp will return as Sharon Carter in Captain America: Civil War
For some people who saw Captain America: The Winter Soldier but haven’t read any of the comics that it was based on, the character that Emily VanCamp played—Sharon/Agent 13—might’ve seemed a little pointless. She was Cap’s neighbor, “Kate,” who was revealed to be an undercover S.H.I.E.L.D. agent almost immediately after her introduction. Then, she was one of the few agents who remained loyal to Nick Fury and Cap after Hydra took over, and the montage at the end of the movie showed her joining the CIA. She didn’t have much screen time, and she didn’t make much of an impact on the plot, but the movie presented her as an important person and then didn’t explain why she was important.
Now, Deadline is reporting that VanCamp—who recently found herself with some more free time—has signed on to reprise her role in Captain America: Civil War, and hopefully that means we’ll finally get a chance to see her tell Cap what her last name is (*cough* Carter *cough*), and maybe also explain who her aunt is (*cough* Peggy Carter *cough*). Also, there’s no guarantee that Civil War will follow the comic book storyline that it’s named after—see: Age Of Ultron—but that version of Sharon Carter plays a very important role that we won’t spoil here. On an unrelated note, Chris Evans doesn’t have very many movies left on his Marvel contract, does he? Anyway, Civil War will hit theaters a year from today, on May 6, 2016.
