Emma Stone responds to teen’s La La Land-themed prom proposal
Proving—just like La La Land itself—that cheerful, elaborately choreographed musical numbers can get you a lot of positive attention (if not necessarily love), an Arizona teenager earned a written response from Emma Stone via an over-the-top prom invitation. Working with his friends, 17-year old aspiring filmmaker Jacob Staudenmaier put together a parody of the musical’s opening number, “Another Day Of Sun,” inviting Stone to accompany him to his high school prom.
Despite repeating his friends’ assertions that he looks a little like Ryan Gosling (singing, “Now maybe that’s a bit far-fetched”), Staudenmaier couldn’t quite land the date, but he did get a letter from the Oscar-winning actress:
Jacob, thanks for making the greatest proposal I have ever received. I can’t tell you what an honor that was and how much I smiled through that entire beautifully orchestrated video. I’m in London working, but I hope you have the best time at prom, and I’m grateful you thought of me. Thank you. P.S. I do see Gosling around the eyes. Love, Emma.
So: no date, but we’re pretty sure a high school kid’s self-esteem could dine out (maybe at the Olive Garden) on that “Love, Emma” for a pretty long time.
