Emma Stone rumored to star in next Spider-Man, that 21 Jump Street movie we keep telling you about

What with Lindsay Lohan currently lock-stepped in the march of progress, the field is wide open for Emma Stone to step in and be the sultry, smoky-voiced redhead that Hollywood so desperately needs—and do it without all the attendant baggage, which is important if you’re going to star in something like the next Spider-Man movie. Entertainment Weekly reports that Stone is now among the top choices to play Mary Jane Watson opposite Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker in Marc Webb’s reboot. “But didn’t you guys say the next Spider-Man film wouldn’t even have Mary Jane?” you ask, your adorable doe eyes wide with innocent wonder. Yes, dear, that’s what they told us initially, but when you get a little bit older you’ll realize that sometimes even grown-up studios don’t always tell the truth. Anyway, the film will supposedly now feature a love triangle revolving around both Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy, with Alice In Wonderland’s Mia Wasikowska reportedly in the running for the latter role (even though she apparently would rather not be).

Variety further suggests that Stone’s close working relationship with Sony means it’s basically her part to lose, and that special friendship seems to have also given her an advantage on landing the female lead in the big-screen adaptation of 21 Jump Street headed up by her Superbad co-star Jonah Hill that we keep telling you about and you’re like, “Jonah Hill is doing 21 Jump Street?? WTF??” and we’re like, “Yes, we told you this like twice already.” Anyway, Stone’s is the first name we’ve actually seen attached to the project, so it looks as though it’s really and truly moving forward—so don’t act so surprised the next time we bring it up.
