Emma Thompson in talks to join Emma Stone's Cruella de Vil movie
According to Variety, Emma Thompson is in talks to join Emma Stone in Disney’s live-action Cruella de Vil “origin story.” We don’t know who Thompson might be playing, as we don’t know many specifics about the plot, but the last thing we heard was that Cruella would be set in the ‘80s and would have a “punk vibe”—sort of like Joker, but with a woman who wants a coat made of puppies instead of a funny clown man. Stone is playing Cruella, with I, Tonya’s Craig Gillespie directing.
As Variety notes, this will be the latest in a long line of Disney movie revivals for Thompson, who played P.L. Travers in Saving Mr. Banks and Mrs. Potts in Beauty And The Beast. This movie is also apparently a big Avengers-style team-up for women named Emma, so hopefully Disney can get Emma Watson, Emma Roberts, and Emma Bunton (Baby Spice!) on board. Maybe they could all play different versions of Cruella de Vil at different stages of her life, establishing why she wants a puppy coat and what she does after failing to get her puppy coat?
