Emma Watson joins Tom Hanks’ other Dave Eggers adaptation

Despite having been something of an “it” novelist—or at least the Barnes & Noble end cap display equivalent of an “it’ novelist—in the 2000s, McSweeney’s founder Dave Eggers has never had any of his work adapted to film. (He has, however, done his share of screenwriting, collaborating on the scripts for Away We Go, Where The Wild Things Are, and Promised Land.) All of that is quickly changing, though, and oddly enough, it seems to be Tom Hanks who’s leading the way.

Tom Tykwer’s adaptation of A Hologram For The King, which Hanks produced and stars in, is currently in post-production. It’ll be followed by an adaptation of The Circle, also produced by Hanks, and written and directed by James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now, the upcoming The End Of The Tour). Variety is reporting that Emma Watson has signed on to star as protagonist Mae Holland, who accepts a job with a powerful tech company. Hanks will co-star, though his role is undisclosed.

In lieu of any more substantial information, here are the end credits from Hanks’ 2011 directorial effort Larry Crowne.
