Empire’s soundtrack drip drops to No. 1

Empire isn’t just popular on TV. The show’s soundtrack debuted in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 this week, marking the first time a TV soundtrack has held the top spot in five years. That was when Glee reigned supreme but, as Deadline notes, that was for revamped cover songs. The last time a fully original network soundtrack a la Empire was this popular was in 1985, when the first Miami Vice soundtrack spent 11 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1. And that thing didn’t even feature “Drip Drop.”

Empire’s two-hour season finale airs tonight on Fox.
