Epic Records drops Death Grips after they leak their own record

In news that should come as a shock to absolutely no one even a little familiar with the record business or business in general, after leaking their own record online, Death Grips have been dropped from Epic Records. No Love Deep Web hit the net last month after the group was told by Epic that the record wouldn’t see the light of day until 2013. “The label will be hearing the album for the first time with you,” explained the band.

Epic, unsurprisingly, didn’t take too kindly to this, considering it had both paid for the record’s production and presumably given the band at least some sort of advance. It reached out to the band and its lawyers who, in turn, posted the label’s legal threats on the band’s Facebook page, saying, “HAHAHAHAHAHAHA NOW FUCK OFF.”

In a statement, Epic Records says that while it aims to break new artists, “when marketing and publicity stunts trump the actual music, we must remind ourselves of our core values.” The company wishes the band well, and will probably see them in court.
