Evan Rachel Wood has never played a character like the one she plays in Allure

In her new film Allure, Evan Rachel Wood plays the troubled, slightly unlikable Laura, a 30-year-old housekeeper who takes advantage of the impressionable 16-year-old Eva (Julia Sarah Stone), who is trying to escape her uptight mother. Laura convinces Eva to flee and come live with her, but their relationship turns toxic and abusive as Laura’s emotional instability is revealed. For Wood, this kind of complexity in a female character was crucial in her decision to take the role, as these kinds of roles aren’t always available for women in Hollywood. At the premiere for the film, Wood talked to us about the part and her interest in it.
