Even Facebook thinks you should send your mom flowers for Mother’s Day

If it feels like Mother’s Day has already come and gone, that could be because you subjected yourself and the woman who gave you life to Garry Marshall’s dreck. But the holiday is actually two days away, so if you haven’t already ordered flowers or finished up that ceramic mug or ashtray, you could be in trouble—that is, if your buddy Facebook weren’t already on the case. Virtual flowers are going to bloom on the social media site this weekend, as The Verge reports that Facebook’s Reactions feature will temporarily include a little purple flower.

A Twitter user discovered the icon in Facebook’s source code, and the company issued this statement to The Verge in response: “To celebrate Mother’s Day, we are testing the ability for people in a few markets to leave a flower reaction.” So it looks like some children will be able to respond to their mothers’ status updates about the lack of celebration or recognition by posting a little daisy. Unfortunately, this option will not be available in the United States, so our readers abroad will have to fill us in on the resulting heartwarming moments/scoldings for these particular mouse clicks.
