Even Mike Pence's daughter bought a copy of John Oliver's bunny book

It seems that Mike Pence’s eldest daughter is a John Oliver fan—or at least, a good sport. As The Hill reports, Charlotte Pence, author of the original Pence bunny book that inspired Oliver’s bestselling satirical take on the Pence bunny book, A Day In The Life Of Marlon Bundo, tells ITV simply that, “I have bought his book.” She adds, “he’s giving proceeds of the book to charity, and we’re also giving proceeds of our book to charity, so I really think that we can all get behind it.”

Your first thought may have been to wonder if the younger Pence is aware of which charities are benefitting from sales of Oliver’s book, given that they’re causes that typically make members of her family fall to their knees praying in a cold sweat. (Sales of Oliver’s book will benefit LGBTQ nonprofit The Trevor Project and advocacy group AIDS United.) But the 24-year-old says that she knows where the money is going, and “I also want to support those charities—I really mean that.”

In that case, congratulations to Charlotte Pence for doing more for the LGBTQ community clicking “buy now” on Amazon than her father has done in his entire political career. Mike Pence, as residents of his home state of Indiana surely must recall, was responsible for an HIV outbreak in the state after shutting down clean needle exchanges on moral grounds. He also signed Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which allows companies and individuals to discriminate on “religious grounds,” opposed adding protections based on sexual orientation to the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, supported Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, and said that same-sex marriage would lead to “societal collapse” in a speech in 2006. He has also made statements in support of gay conversion therapy, which is currently banned or in the process of being banned in several states and which one survivor describes to Fox 31 Denver as “100 percent child abuse.” Cute rabbit, though.
