Even the Spice Girls are getting a musical now
All five Spice Girls—Sporty, Scary, Baby, Ginger, and Posh—reunited in London today to announce the launch of Viva Forever!, a forthcoming musical inspired by and featuring the music of the late ‘90s girl group. Oh, Mamma Mia, what hath ABBA wrought?
According to the American Foreign Press, the show is based loosely on the surely fascinating lives of the Spice Girls themselves, telling the story of a girl and her pals who become famous overnight. Several Spice Girls songs will be featured in the musical, including “Spice Up Your Life” and “Two Become One.”
The show opens in London on Dec. 11 and was written by Absolutely Fabulous star Jennifer Saunders, who’s taking her first crack at authoring a musical.
The Spice Girls, who last reunited for a 2008 reunion tour, helped unveil the show at a musical landmark easily on par with Sun Studios or Abbey Road: the very same hotel featured in the video for the group’s debut single, “Wannabe.”
